Research
Dr Franks' research interests focus on advancing orthopedic care through innovation at the intersection of biomechanics, materials, and technology. He is particularly interested in the design and development of 3D-printed prostheses, aiming to create patient-specific, cost-effective, and durable solutions. A key area of his work involves hip biomechanics, where he studies joint mechanics and load distribution to improve implant performance and longevity. He also explores mega prostheses for complex limb reconstruction, especially in cases involving large bone defects, to enhance functional outcomes and quality of life. In parallel, he is engaged in robotic joint surgery, investigating how robotic assistance can improve surgical precision, alignment, and reproducibility, ultimately leading to better clinical outcomes for patients.
