Profile
Dr Preena Uppal is a paediatrician and paediatric neurologist based in Sydney, dedicated to supporting children and their families from the earliest stages of life through to adolescence and transition into adulthood. She is the director of Sunshine Kids Clinic, where she provides holistic, family-centred care that evolves with each stage of a child's development. Dr Uppal has extensive neonatal experience, having worked across multiple neonatal intensive care units including the Royal Hospital for Women, Grace Centre for Newborn Care, and a range of public and private hospitals across Sydney and Australia. She is extensively trained in advanced paediatric life support and neonatal resuscitation, offering families a high level of reassurance that their newborns are in safe, experienced hands from the very beginning. With dual specialist training in paediatrics and paediatric neurology, she has broad expertise in developmental, behavioural, and neurological conditions including ADHD, anxiety, and learning differences. She is passionate about early identification, timely intervention, and continuity of care. She works closely with parents, general practitioners, educators, and allied health professionals to support children’s long-term outcomes, providing a consistent and trusted medical home from infancy through to young adulthood.
Research
Dr Preena Uppal's research and professional interests focus on neurodevelopmental and behavioural paediatrics, including ADHD, anxiety disorders, developmental delays, and paediatric neurological conditions, with a strong emphasis on early life influences on long-term outcomes. Her work is shaped by her clinical role beginning in the newborn period, where she supports families from birth and continues to follow children through their developmental journey into adolescence. She has a particular interest in early identification and intervention, as well as improving access to care through integrated, collaborative models between paediatricians and general practitioners. Dr Uppal is actively involved in GP education and regularly delivers webinars and teaching sessions on topics such as infant feeding, behaviour, development, and ADHD, supporting primary care providers to manage common paediatric concerns with confidence. Her work focuses on practical, evidence-based strategies that empower families and clinicians, alongside service innovation aimed at reducing wait times and improving patient outcomes through continuity of care.
